My main body of work is a series of large paintings, oil and wax on canvas. I have a working method that has a kind of duality, involving a constant sense of the immediate environment, of looking and of sensory experience, interacting with the dynamics of abstraction and the changing evolution of the work. The thirteen small paintings are acrylic on paper, enabling a rapidly developing, exploratory use of colour, movement and layering in the paintings. As with other work there is a link with small rapid drawings, notations made on scraps of paper, which are responses to chance encounters – blue paint on a fence, spilt yellow gunman on pavement, a helicopter drone, discarded plastic spoon – traces – time – sensation. The most recent six small works will lead to an extended series. 14-02-12
